City Council discuss, approve construction projects at its Tuesday meeting

By Beau Dusz correspondent

Wadsworth City Council approved the construction of a new waterline for Westview Avenue in the southwest section of the city at its Tuesday meeting.

The project has an estimated cost of $313,000.

Council placed a third reading on the legislation to contract with URS Corporation for professional services to acquire rights-of-way necessary for the planned improvement of High Street expected to begin in 2015.

That improvement is planned to widen High Street including the bridge, which spans I-76 in the Great Oaks Business District.

In order to complete the improvements, the more than $15 million project will involve up to 40 parcels needed for rights-of-ways with an estimated cost of $3 million to acquire those rights-of-way, Service Director Chris Easton explained.

Easton also informed the council trash collection will not take place on July 4. Those customers who normally have trash collection on Thursdays will instead have it on Friday this week.

The council's representative to the Akron-Canton Airport Commission, Tim Eberling, informed council that an open house at the municipal airport is tentatively scheduled for September 14.
