The new Soprema Senior Center and Cafe will be alive with activities this week.
On Monday, from 9 a.m. to noon, help in filing income taxes will be available. This does require an appointment. Also at 11 a.m. on Monday, a talk on "Maintaining Your Brain & Memory As You Age" by a spokesperson from the Medina County Health Department will begin. At 1 p.m. a movie will be shown at the Wadsworth Library with refreshments.
For Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the walking track at the new YMCA will be open to members of the Soprema Center and from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. a watercolor class will be held. In addition, the General Caregiver Support Group will meet at 12:30 with a lunch and a talk on "Signs of Memory Loss." The Lunch Bunch will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Buehler’s. To attend the lunch, call the Center for a reservation and meet at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to noon tax-filing assistance will be available for those who have an appointment. From 10 a.m. to 11, arthritis exercise with a certified instructor will be held. At 12:30 p.m. Euchre will begin. From 1 p.m. to 3, Veteran's Assistance with a representative of the Medina County Veterans Service will be available to answer questions. No appointment is necessary for the Veteran's Assistance program. From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tai Chi practice will be held.
For Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. card lessons will be held and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mah Jongg. The walking track will be available from noon to 2 p.m. and from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bridge will be held. At 12:45 p.m., the Alzheimer's Support Group will meet.
On Friday at 9:30 a.m., legal aid with a representative from the Community Legal Aid will begin with free assistance to seniors who are qualified. From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bingo will be held and at 11 a.m. a blood pressure check will be available. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Senior Theater will be held. The theater group performs skits, songs and story readings for nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers.
Membership in the Soprema Senior Center is free, but participants are asked to complete a membership form. The Center is located at 617 School Drive. More information can be obtained by calling 330-335-1513.
