The aroma of delicious food, the squeals of children and music are expected to fill the air over downtown Wadsworth from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
During that time, up to 20 food vendors will compete for the best dessert, best restaurant and best pizza, according to Jack Ollom, executive director of Downtown Wadsworth Inc., the sponsor of the event.
While delicious food is savored, a kids’ carnival will be in full swing along with the sounds of Knight Tyme Music with DJ Mike Schnell. Ollom said Schnell has the ability to judge the crowd and determine what genre of music it wants to hear. Ollom added that Schnell plays a mixture of music, including oldies and newer melodies.
The kids’ carnival, Ollom noted, was planned for the pig roast and sidewalk sale event in August, but it was canceled because of the weather. The carnival will have inflatables and face painting for the children.
Tickets will be sold for a dollar each. The ticket holders will then select which vendors’ offerings they want to sample. The vendor who has the most tickets for each of the categories will win bragging rights. Individual servings as well as full meals will be offered. Ollom said the vendors are asked to provide some offerings that require only one or two tickets.
Located in the parking lot on Broad Street immediately east of the Whole Day Cafe, the event is a fundraising activity for Downtown Wadsworth Inc. Its mission statement is “to develop and maintain a downtown identity that will continually advance the quality of the community's social, cultural and commercial environment.” Its motto is “Where Our Community Comes Together." Downtown Wadsworth's office is located at 102 Main Street and its website is www.mswadsworth.org.
Ollom said the proceeds are shared with the vendors. In case of rain, the event will be held Sept. 12.
