The holiday season in downtown Wadsworth began with the Candlelight Walk on Friday evening and the Jingle Bell Jaunt and parade Saturday morning. Businesses downtown will have special promotions for the Friday after Thanksgiving until Christmas.

Thurber’s Jewelers, 115 High St., will be offering 25 percent off all watches Nov. 23 through Dec. 31. Through Dec. 24, Thurber's will give a NOOK Color Tablet to customers who make a purchase of $1,500 or more, a Samsung Galaxy Tablet with purchases over $2,500 and an iPad 2 with Wi-Fi for purchases over $4,000.

In addition, Thurber's will have a "Let It Snow Promo," according to manager Tom Koosed. Koosed said customers will get a full refund, excluding sales tax, on any purchase made between Nov. 23 and Dec. 24 if it snows six inches or more on New Year's Day between 12:01 a.m. and 12:59 p.m., as recorded by the Weather Command Center located at Akron Canton Airport.

John O'Leary, owner of Wadsworth Music, 133 College St., said his store will be holding "Beat the Internet Weekend" after Thanksgiving. All instruments and amplifiers will be below online prices, and the store will cover the sales tax, O'Leary noted. He explained the store will also be opening a Fender dealership online Monday.

Apropos, 136 Main St., will hold its sixth annual Ornament Scavenger Hunt on Sunday. Ornaments will be hung on trees throughout the store. Clues will be given as to where the ornaments are located, and those who locate the ornaments will be given a free ornament.

The store will also have special events each Saturday through Dec. 22. On Dec. 1, Santa will be in the store. Dec. 8 will be Spa Day with a complimentary hand massage and free gifts with purchases. Local Artist Day will also be Dec. 8. J. St. Claire will craft kaleidoscopes, tops and ornaments. Dulcimer player Mary Lou will entertain shoppers Dec. 22.

The Third Annual Come Home for the Holidays Shop Wadsworth Giveaway will continue through Dec. 1. During that time, save your receipts for purchases in the 44281 zip code area and turn those receipts in at Ritzman Pharmacy, 120 High St., by 11 a.m. Dec. 8 to be entered into a drawing for prizes donated by local merchants. Winners do not need to be present but must be 18 years or older. This is sponsored by the Wadsworth Independent Business Association.

An Affair on the Square on College Street, sponsored by Downtown Wadsworth, Inc. and the Wadsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 12. On that date, for a $5 per adult admission fee, shoppers will find special sales, prizes and refreshments. Proceeds from the event will benefit Giving Doll.
