The Wadsworth Area Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin School, 200 Takacs Drive.

At that meeting, Roger Havens, principal of Franklin School, will present information about the anniversary celebrations, which the city of Wadsworth has held over the years.

Havens' presentation will include the celebration held in 1874 to commemorate the 60th anniversary; 1914, the 100th; 1939, the 125th; 1964, the sesquicentennial; and, 1989, the 175th.

Wadsworth will hold its bicentennial next year and preparations are well underway for the activities for that celebration.

Havens' slides will include the programs and activities, which took place in 1874, 1914, 1939, 1964 and 1989 and some of the activities that may take place during the celebration next year.

The Historical Society is an organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining the history of Wadsworth. The Society maintains the Johnson House, located at 161 High Street; a house built in the early 1850s and contains local historical items and memorabilia.

Havens is noted for his writing and publishing of a number of children's books concerning the history of Wadsworth used in the elementary schools.

More information on the society can be found at its website.
