Fall Registration for kindergarten in the Wadsworth schools is underway.
Parents of prospective kindergartners who attended a meeting Tuesday at Wadsworth Middle School were presented with a packet of forms and the opportunity to register for an appointment for a screening for the children who expect to enroll in the kindergarten program this fall.
Paula Canterbury, Director of Instruction for the school system, described the entrance into kindergarten "as one of the most important journeys you and your child will take."
Kristen Prough, Director of Student Services, told the parents screening appointments will be held March 18-22 in the elementary buildings and the results of the screening will available at the end of the appointment.
On March 18, screenings will be done at the Franklin Elementary building, 200 Takacs Drive; March 19, Valley View, 625 Orchard Street; March 20, Isham, 325 Sunset Boulevard; March 21, Lincoln, 280 North Lyman Street; and March 22, Overlook, 650 Broad Street.
Prough also announced in April or May the numbers of students enrolled will be verified and building assignments given. Then, in May or June, welcome letters with the pertinent information will be sent to the homes.
Parents were urged to enroll their children in the summer reading program at the public library and in Safety Town, which will be held in July. Sharon Wright said Safety Town has been offered for 40 years and is "a good transition for children going to kindergarten in the fall." More information on Safety Town can be obtained by calling 330-714-8788.
In August, transportation postcards will be sent and class lists with the name of the teacher will be available.
Kindergartners with names beginning with A-L will attend class August 21; and, M-Z, August 22.
Erin Simpson, Overlook principal, said there are 12 sections of kindergartners this year with a total of nearly 300 students and the same is expected for the fall enrollment.
The forms and questionnaires presented to the parents included a list of the frequently asked transportation questions by kindergarten parents, immunizations required for school attendance, health history of the child, personal history of the child, screening appointment information and a home language survey.
For those parents who have not yet scheduled a screening appointment, call 330-335-1316. More information on the screening process and kindergarten can be obtained at the schools' website.
