On Monday, the Wadsworth Planning Commission recommended the City Council rezone from residential to commercial less than one acre of land west of the Sunoco Station at 802 High Street.

Plans call for the proposed rezoned land to be added to the land now occupied by the Sunoco Station for a restaurant with a drive-thru.

The council will take up the issue, hold a public hearing and make the final decision on the commission's recommendation.

At a public hearing on the issue, area residents raised some concerns about the proposed project. The commissioners told the residents if the restaurant is built, access will be from High Street and not from West Street.

Also, the residents questioned if a restaurant could succeed at that site. The commissioners said that was an issue for the developer and not for the commission.

The commission also set two public hearings for its January 28 session and a third one for a special meeting January 29.

A hearing on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. will discuss a proposal to build 147 ranch-style apartments to be known as Redwood Acres on 23 acres on the south side of Reimer Road.

Developer Patricia Rakoci said most of the "luxury apartments" will have two-car garages and will "lease very well."

The second hearing on Jan. 28 will be held at 7:30.  It will concern the building of an Aquatic Center at 625 Broad Street.

Plans call for the pools, slides, diving boards and a climbing wall surrounded by a six-foot black vinyl chain link fence to be built on three acres just north of the recently constructed Community Center.

At a special hearing on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m., discussion will center on the plans to renovate and improve Art Wright Stadium on Grandview Avenue.

Plans for the improvements include replacing the existing field with artificial surface and demolishing the bleachers on the visitors' side and replacing them with aluminum ones to increase the number of seats.

In addition, the field will be enlarged, the ticket booth replaced and an underground drainage system installed.

The public hearings will be held at the City Hall, 120 Maple Street.
