In a special meeting Wednesday, the Wadsworth School Board unanimously approved "the last best offer" contract with the classified employees.
According to Superintendent Dr. Dale Fortner, the representatives from each side had agreed to a tentative settlement and the board had approved that agreement December 21. However, Treasurer Doug Beeman explained word had come back that the employees had turned the offer down.
Fortner said "our attorney is now in contact with the federal mediator." The negotiations had been ongoing since April of last year, Fortner noted.
Beeman said the contract covers approximately 210 employees. Fortner said those employees include bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians and maintenance personnel.
The contract is retroactive to January 1.
Fortner announced a ceremony to dedicate the Charles R. Parsons Administrative Building will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Parsons is former Superintendent of the school system. The building formerly housed Overlook Elementary School, which is now located in a new building opened last September at 650 Broad Street.
