Downtown Wadsworth and the Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce will combine to sponsor "An Affair on the Square on College Street" from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday to promote shopping in the downtown area.

Janie Parish, executive director of the chamber, said this is the first time this event has been scheduled. In the future, a different quadrant of the square will be showcased each quarter. For the next quarter, Main Street businesses will be emphasized. Parish said the order of the quadrants to be highlighted will be changed so one quadrant does not always have the same season.

Special sales, door prizes, refreshments and holiday shopping will be available to those who are wearing a wrist band, which they can purchase for $5. Registration tables will be available on College Street where the wrist bands, punch cards and a list of promotion items from different stores can be received. The proceeds from the band will be given to the Giving Doll program.

Giving Doll, located at 229 College St., was founded in 2006 and has distributed over 12,000 handmade dolls to every state in the United States and over 30 foreign countries.

Parish said in order to participate in the Affair on the Square, the business has to agree to have a special promotion and provide a door prize. The door prize for that particular store will be awarded to the person whose name is drawn from entries. To enter, each person has to find a special word in the window of the store and tell the store associate that word when she/he enters the store.

The Giving Doll program has a mission to "give faith, love, joy, hope and comfort to children worldwide at times of special need through the construction and distribution of handmade cloth dolls."

More information about this program can be found at the Giving Doll website.
